Updated: After a major snowstorm crashed into the East Coast, the New York State Board of Law Examiners bumped the test back for one day only for those candidates scheduled to take the test at the Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan, according to its website.

However, the board’s outgoing phone message Monday and Tuesday said candidates who can’t make to the New York bar exam test site, will “automatically be withdrawn from the exam after attendance is taken.

“Failure to show up at the exam will not prevent you from reapplying for a future administration of the bar exam in New York unless you have three or more withdrawals and absences, in which case you will need to petition the board for permission to reapply,” the message continued. No information was offered about refunds.

More than 5,600 U.S. flights were canceled, according to FlightAware.com. At 2 p.m. eastern, the National Weather Service reported 19.7 inches of snow in Central Park and 27.1 inches at a Newark, New Jersey, airport. New York City had been under a travel advisory from Sunday til mid-Monday.

In Providence County, Rhode Island, where the National Weather Service reports 33.5 inches of snow fell by 1:30 Monday, Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell issued an executive order to postpone the bar exam by one day, and offered applicants the option of deferring to the July exam at no cost.

In New Jersey, Tuesday’s arrival time for examinees was pushed back from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., according to the state’s board of bar examiners website.
