The alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks and four accused conspirators are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow at Guantanamo Bay.

Military law experts told the Washington Post the conspiracy case could be one of the most important criminal trials in modern U.S. history. The trial could focus as much on the legitimacy of the military commissions hearing the cases as the evidence against the suspects, the story says.

Khalid Sheik Mohammed is accused of suggesting the suicide attacks to Osama bin Laden in 1996. Other defendants are accused of helping train and fund the hijackers. All the men were held at secret overseas prisons and some were subjected to waterboarding during interrogations.

Prosecutors are seeking a Sept. 15 trial date.
