Blame Yourself, Not Law School, for Failing NY Bar Exam, Judge Tells Plaintiff Paralegal

By suing her United Kingdom law school, Maria Abramova had apparently hoped to recoup some of the $162,000 or so that she says she wasted on a failed education.

However, the would-be attorney, who at last report was working as a paralegal after failing both the New York state bar exam and comparable tests in the U.K. that would have allowed her to practice there, has had her claim rejected by the British High Court, reports the New York Law Journal. Its article is reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

As she pointed the finger at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice for allegedly failing to train her adequately in test-taking techniques, Abramova “was ready to blame anyone but herself for her misfortunes,” said the High Court justice as he handed down his verdict.
