An Australian lawyer has written a book about the top 10 mistakes that small and medium-size businesses frequently make in their legal matters.

And among the mega-mistakes, he says, is spending money on litigation. For the best-represented clients, the focus should be on talk rather than legal action, writes Paul Brennan. Other common errors that clients make again and again, the attorney author says, include not protecting intellectual property; changing lawyers repeatedly; and not having written employment agreements with workers, reports the Herald Sun.

The fact that business clients often make the same mistakes is a plus for those smart enough to learn from others’ mistakes, Brennan tells potential readers. “This means that your lawyer has probably seen the legal mistake before and has a good idea what to do. Although it may not seem that way to you.”
