An attorney was found dead at her home in northeast Missouri on Sunday after she was shot seven times in an apparent murder-suicide by her husband, authorities said.

Kristen “Kadie” Campbell Johnson, 33, was the city attorney for Unionville and also had a private practice with offices in Kirksville, Milan and Unionville, according to the Associated Press, the Kirksville Daily Express and KTVO.

Her husband, Riley Johnson, 36, appears to have shot both Johnson and himself to death, the Adair County coroner said Wednesday.

The couple’s three young sons and two other adults were found unharmed in the Kirksville home by sheriff’s officers and state police. They responded at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday to a report that shots had been fired, the county sheriff said.

An investigation is continuing to determine exactly what happened. Kadie Campbell Johnson’s body was found in the garage of the home, reports KTVO, and Riley Johnson’s body was found in a nearby hallway. He had been shot once. Firearms were also present at the scene, said Sheriff Robert Hardwick.

Kadie Campbell Johnson’s obituary on Heartland.com includes information on funeral services, which will be held Friday afternoon for the University of Missouri-Kansas City law graduate.
