Will a new president in the White House make a difference in the ongoing investigation of alleged political interference in the hiring and firing of a number of U.S. Attorneys during the Bush administration?

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee predicted today that it will, as he subpoenaed former White House aide Karl Rove—again—to testify on the topic, reports USA Today in its On Politics blog.

“Change has come to Washington, and I hope Karl Rove is ready for it. After two years of stonewalling, it’s time for him to talk,” said Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) in a press release.

Although Rove had claimed earlier that he is immunized by executive privilege from being required to testify before Congress, that position was supported by former President George W. Bush but is not supported by President Barack Obama, according to Conyers. Rove is scheduled to appear before the committee on Feb. 2.

Conyers hopes that Obama will waive any applicable privilege concerning Rove’s new subpoena, reports Roll Call (sub. req.).
