A law student at the University of California at Berkeley’s Boalt Hall is accused of having made a threatening Internet chat board post that prompted its sister law school, Hastings, in San Francisco, to close Wednesday. The post was characterized by Hastings dean Nell Jessup Newton as a “copycat-type threat” related to Monday’s shooting massacre of 32 by a student at Virginia Tech.

The threat was determined to be a hoax, but law enforcement agencies are investigating possible charges, and the University of California-Berkeley is considering student discipline, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

A copy of a written apology letter reportedly sent to Newton by Berkeley Dean Christopher Edley Jr. is posted on the law blog of the Wall Street Journal (subscription required).
