A California couple who appeared in an episode of the Dr. Phil television show titled “Shoplifting Confessions” were the subjects of fraud task force raid.

The San Diego Union-Tribune speculates that the Nov. 19 appearance and the raid are related. The San Marcos couple reportedly said they were “professional shoplifters” who had amassed nearly $1 million in stolen goods.

The couple revealed on the show that they often brought their children along on shoplifting expeditions, according to the show’s website.

No arrests have been made, and a lawyer for the couple and authorities remain mum.

So why did the couple agree to reveal their identities on the show?

“Putting it out in the open and knowing that everybody has seen us now, it will help us to not want to go to the stores, because we’re going to feel like they’re going to recognize us now. I think it’s something to help us to stop, because my cover’s blown,” said the husband, who identified himself as Allen on the show.
