Updated: A former prosecutor in Florida has been charged with video voyeurism for allegedly using a cellphone to record a woman in her underwear at a Gainesville tanning salon.

Former 8th Circuit Assistant State Attorney William Ezzell, 37, was charged Friday in the Sept. 4 incident, the Gainesville Sun reports.

Ezzell resigned as a prosecutor after news coverage of the allegations. According to prior reports, a screaming woman at the tanning salon claimed a man had used his cellphone to record her in her underwear from above the tanning room wall. The man left the salon after he was accused.

Ezzell was identified as the alleged suspect by his registration at the salon and surveillance video, according to prior news coverage.

Reached by email, Ezzell declined to comment. “Out of respect for the victim, the prosecutor and the judicial system, I have no comment,” he wrote.
