A lawyer representing Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy, told conspiracy theorists who claim that the father was involved in the deaths of the Massachusetts couple’s three children that “there will be consequences.”

“Enough is enough—this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop,” Patrick Clancy’s attorney Howard Cooper said in a statement Tuesday morning.

Lindsay Clancy’s trial in the death of three children ended Friday with a deadlocked jury and a mistrial. During the trial, some conspiracy theories started to spread online claiming that Patrick Clancy could be responsible for the crime, even though that never came up in court, CBS News Boston reports.

Lindsay Clancy admitted through her attorney that she killed their three children in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023, but she pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, arguing that she was too mentally ill to understand right from wrong.

However, Cooper said his client “has been subject to an escalating campaign of misinformation and defamatory statements” and threatened legal action against conspiracy theorists spreading rumors that the father was involved in the murders.
