It’s the first Friday of November, and you may or may not know what that means: It’s Love Your Lawyer Day!

Those who want to show their appreciation are invited to tweet at the hashtag #LoveYourLawyerDay and to ditch the lawyer jokes. Lawyers in turn, are asked to share the love by performing an hour of pro bono work or donating the equivalent of one billable hour to public charity.

The day was founded by the American Lawyers Public Image Association, a group founded by legal marketer Nader Anise.

The theme of this year’s Love Your Lawyer Day is that that any lawyer who receives a gift or special courtesy in honor of the day should pass it on to a nonlawyer, Anise told the ABA Journal in an email on Wednesday. Though the original name of this year’s campaign was “Lawyer Love Baton,” that was replaced with a new name, “Share the Love.”
