New Orleans-based McGlinchey Stafford announced Tuesday that it would shut down.
“There was no single triggering event or one definitive action that brought us to this point,” said Michael Ferachi, managing member of the law firm, in a statement published in Law.com. “This is not because of any specific attorney’s departure or any individual financial decision or leadership action that led us to this point. This is the result of a combination of market factors, such as lagging collections, compounded with various internal factors over several years.”
Equity partners voted to wind down the firm’s operations after “assessing several strategic alternatives,” according to McGlinchey’s statement.
McGlinchey, which was established 52 years ago, has 18 offices across the Southeast and the Northeast. It had experienced declines in its head count over the past decade, Law.com reports. It had 199 lawyers in 2016 but only 137 in 2021. By 2024, the number of lawyers had increased to 151.
Deirdre McGlinchey, the daughter of firm co-founder Dermot McGlinchey, was among recent departures from the firm, Law.com reports. She and several other attorneys left for Jones Walker, Law.com also reports.
