Following news last month that McKool Smith is planning rapid expansion in New York, the Texas-based trial firm is now adding a new Houston office.

It raided Andrews Kurth to do so, bringing in the firm’s former national bankruptcy practice leader, Hugh Ray, and two other bankruptcy veterans from the firm, Peter Goodman and Paul Moak. Also joining McKool Smith as a principal is Hugh Ray III, a bankruptcy lawyer from Weycer Kaplan Pulaski & Zuber in Houston, reports McKool Smith in a press release.

“It’s no secret that McKool Smith has some of the finest courtroom lawyers anywhere, which is one of the main reasons we decided to join the firm,” says the senior Ray in the release. “I’m also very excited about helping the firm build a world-class bankruptcy practice.”

McKool Smith now plans to hire additional bankruptcy lawyers. The senior Ray will divide his time between the firm’s New York and Houston offices, and Goodman and Moak will practice in New York and Houston, respectively.
