Mueller's investigation could last at least another year, sources say
The investigation of Russian influence in the 2016 election could last at least another year, according to people with knowledge of the investigation.
That means it is unlikely that President Donald Trump’s lawyers will receive the assurances they are seeking in a meeting scheduled for later this week with the office of special counsel Robert Mueller, the Washington Post reports.
Trump’s lawyers hope to learn that the probe’s focus on their client is winding up and the president will be cleared, according to the article. But those assurances are unlikely, and “the meeting could trigger a new, more contentious phase between the special counsel and a frustrated president,” according to the Post.
Trump’s lawyers have said White House interviews are over and there are no outstanding requests for White House documents. The records turned over so far show no evidence of collusion or obstruction, the lawyers have reportedly told Trump. The lawyers have told the president he could be cleared as the new year begins.
Trump said on Sunday that “there is no collusion” and he has no plans to fire Mueller.
