A St. Paul, Minnesota, employee who says she struck her own parked car while driving a rental van as part of her work for the city is seeking reimbursement from the municipality for the damage.

“Because I was working for the city and driving the city vehicle, I feel they are responsible for paying for the damage done to my car,” wrote Megan Campbell, a parks and recreation department employee, in a report to the city.

She says her personal vehicle sustained up to $1,900 in damage in the Aug. 4 accident, recounts the Star Tribune.

It occurred when Campbell made a right turn as she was headed back to her office and ran into her own Nissan Pathfinder. The van apparently suffered no significant damage.

City Clerk Shari Moore told the newspaper this is the first such claim she has seen.

The city is investigating the claim and is also looking at why the city didn’t receive the accident claim until Sept. 25.

Campbell didn’t respond to a phone call from the Star Tribune.
