President-elect Barack Obama and soon-to-be vice president Joe Biden will be visiting the U.S. Supreme Court this afternoon at the invitation of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.

Details are expected to be scant on their sit-down with the justices because the media isn’t invited, according to the Washington Post.

“No doubt all will be cordial during the meeting, but there is a lot of background between the justices and the politicians,” the newspaper notes.

Both Obama and Biden, in their previous jobs as U.S. senators, opposed the confirmation of Roberts (as well as Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.). Plus, Biden was one of the major players in the confirmation contention concerning Justice Clarence Thomas that sparked worldwide headlines nearly two decades ago.
