New York University law professor Amy Adler hasn’t worn a skirt suit in years.

Adler typically favors printed shift dresses by Trina Turk, but she finds “intriguing” fall’s new fashion trend: the matching skirt suit. The Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) spoke with Adler for its story on “the triumphant return of the skirt suit.”

Several designers featured “seemingly endless varieties” of the suits in their fall collections, the story says. Many of the suits feature a “voluminous circle skirt,” though some are more body-hugging if they fall below the knee.

Adler says she’s at a point in her career where she doesn’t need her clothes to give her authority. Though she wouldn’t usually wear a formal skirt suit, “it would be ideal for something important or fun,” she tells the newspaper.
