If you like to look bad in plaid, but don’t want to spend too much money for it, the Tie Society has a solution for you.

The company is one of several capitalizing on a rental trend, the Washington Post reports. “Businesses such as Netflix, Zipcar and Capital Bikeshare have fueled this culture of borrowers and lenders,” the story says. “Experts have coined a term for the phenomenon: collaborative consumption. The sharing economy.”

Washington, D.C., lawyer Masai McDougall of Bingham McCutchen tells the Post he’s been renting his trendy tartan plaid ties. “It’s nice to try out styles without having to spend 100 bucks on a tie,” he says.

Some women also rent ties, the story says. Others use Rent the Runway for designer dresses.
