Stanford Law School has hired a new dean. She’s Mary Elizabeth Magill, vice dean at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Magill takes over on Sept. 1, replacing Larry Kramer, who is leaving to head the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, report the National Law Journal and the San Jose Mercury News. At Virginia, Magill taught classes and oversaw the school’s curriculum, its registrar and its dean of students. She was responsible for faculty recruitment and mentoring junior professors.

In a press release, University Provost John Etchemendy praised Magill’s “creative and insightful approach to problems and her skill at engaging a community in their solution.”
