A legal dispute involving the unsuccessful movie Sahara took an unexpected turn yesterday when the lead attorney for a filmmaker rested his case, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The turn of events came the same day the Times printed a column calling the trial “a clash of egos and an endurance test.”

The column reported on day 55 of the dispute between multimillionaire book author Clive Cussler and multibillionaire media mogul Philip Anschutz, and saw no end in sight.

The suit contends Cussler inflated sales figures for his adventure novels to boost the cost of movie rights to the books. Cussler’s countersuit claims the film company violated contract provisions giving him rights to control the screenplay.
