O’Melveny & Myers is No. 1 for overall qualify of life in rankings based on a survey of more than 18,000 associates by Vault.com.

Paul Hastings, previously in the top position, fell to No. 5, Above the Law reports.

The rankings are based on associate ratings of a dozen factors, ranging from firm culture to compensation to diversity. O’Melveny was tops in two separate areas: overall satisfaction and hours. “O’Melveny earns high marks from associates for its impressive pro bono program, in-house career counseling, and unique culture made up of quirky West Coast types,” Vault says.

Says one associate, “O’Melveny has a culture of caring about each other and truly seeing our work together as a team activity.”

The factors that contribute to the ranking are weighted. Overall satisfaction accounts for 25 percent of the total. Accounting for 10 percent each are firm culture, hours, substantive work and compensation. Accounting for 5 percent each are business outlook, career outlook, associate-partner relations, leadership transparency, training, pro bono and diversity.
