California’s innovative new law school, the University of California at Irvine, attracted more than 2,700 applicants with its offer of free tuition to all members of its first-year class, for all three years of law school. UC Irvine accepted only 4 percent of the applicants for the 2009 school year, making it the choosiest law school in the nation.

Now the 2010 class is also getting a generous offer: scholarships covering at least half the cost of tuition, for all three years of law school, according to a press release. The National Law Journal (sub. req.) and the Wall Street Journal Law Blog also have stories.

The scholarships are funded by private donations. Tuition for the 2010-2011 school year is expected to be about $40,000 for in-state students and about $50,000 for those from out-of-state.
