Are Winston and Howrey Talking About a Merger After All?

Despite earlier claims by some observers that a merger is moot, Winston & Strawn may still be talking with Howrey about a possible combination of the two law firms, according to Legal Week.

Meanwhile, Above the Law is saying that the situation at Howrey is reminiscent of what happened at Heller Ehrman, where partner exits led to a feeding frenzy by competitors eager to snap up the well-regarded law firm’s top talent.

Each firm also inspired its own anonymous blog—Heller Highwater, in Heller’s case—that gave unauthorized updates on the state of the firm. However, ATL says the author of the short-lived Howrey Doin’ blog felt pressure from unknown sources to shut it down. A firm representative told Above the Law that Howrey had nothing to do with Howrey Doin’.
