A 26-year-old associate at Hogan Lovells in Paris is among the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday.

Valentin Ribet died in the attacks at the rock concert at the Bataclan concert hall, report Above the Law, the Am Law Daily (sub. req.) and the Guardian. Eighty-nine people were killed at the venue in a series of attacks that claimed the lives of more than 130 people, according to New York Times and Washington Post coverage on Monday.

Ribet was a litigation associate with a focus on white-collar crime. “This is an awful tragedy and hard for any of us to truly comprehend,” the law firm said in a statement. “We are shocked by both our loss and the wider events in the city.”

Ribet had received an LLM in 2014 at the London School of Economics, which shared news of Ribet’s death in a tweet.

President François Hollande of France declared a state of emergency after the attacks, which gives police the power to conduct raids without a search warrant, according to the New York Times. Police detained 104 people overnight.
