A Clifford Chance partner who lost his wife to ovarian cancer is getting some help from fellow bankruptcy lawyers in his quest to promote earlier detection of the disease.

Andrew Brozman has started a foundation in honor of his late wife, Tina, a Manhattan bankruptcy judge and a Bingham McCutchen lawyer, according to the Wall Street Journal blog Bankruptcy Beat. The foundation’s annual dinner scheduled for Wednesday evening was overseen by bankruptcy lawyers from top firms, including Kirkland & Ellis and Weil, Gotshal & Manges.

Money raised by the foundation, Tina’s Wish, goes to researchers at Yale and the University of Pennsylvania who are developing tests to detect early signs of the disease. It took doctors five months to diagnose Tina Brozman’s cancer.

“Tina Brozman went from doctor to doctor in search of an explanation for her symptoms, but by the time a physician managed to pinpoint the problem, the cancer had already advanced to the most deadly stage,” the blog says.
