College athletes head to court after NCAA rule change
Lawsuits against the NCAA over its eligibility rules have been filed in Ohio, Tennessee and Georgia state court and two more are expected in North Carolina and California within a week.
Basketball players who graduated high school in 2022 are heading to courts in several states, seeking injunctions to block the NCAA from enforcing new rules that allow a fifth year of eligibility that they feel excluded them from the new guidelines.
Last month, the NCAA adopted rules that allow players five years of eligibility if they enroll by the academic year after their 19th birthday, but the 2022 high school class was not included.
Lawsuits have been filed in Ohio, Tennessee and Georgia state court and two more are likely to hit the courts in North Carolina and California within a week.
Breach of contract and violations of state consumer protection laws are alleged in the suits.
