A group of nuns covered almost from head to toe in black-and-gray habits came to the Kane County Courthouse in suburban Chicago today to attend a criminal trial concerning a fatal traffic accident.

Among them was defendant—and nun—Sister Myrian Marot, 24. She was also traditionally garbed, after Judge Ronald Matekaitis ruled Friday, on First Amendment grounds, that Marot could wear her Fraternite Notre Dame habit despite objections from prosecutors that her religious attire could influence jurors, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Authorities say she ran a red light, causing a 2007 traffic accident that killed a 16-year-old and injured three others. However, Marot maintains that the light was green.
