A lawyer from Rockford, Ill., was shot and killed while shoveling snow from his driveway Wednesday. Witnesses said the gunman jumped from a blue minivan and fired several shots.

The 60-year-old lawyer, Gregory Clark, practiced civil and criminal law. Police were questioning a defendant jailed after a judge revoked his bond for an unrelated conviction, the Rockford Register Star reports.

Clark’s son-in-law, Barton Henbest, worked with Clark. He told the newspaper he knew of no threats against the lawyer. “We had no incidents at our office, no threatening notes or letters, nothing to indicate this was impending,” he said.
