Despite $80K in School Debt, Candidate Wears $300 Kate Spade 'It' Shoes
Congressional candidate Reshma Saujani has $80,000 in student loans from Yale Law School and Harvard University, but she has priorities when it comes to footwear.
Saujani, who is trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, wears Kate Spade wedges, the New York Times reports. More specifically, she wears the Halle, with a $300 price tag. They are black patent leather, with three-inch wedge heels and a round toe.
The shoes are both fashionable and comfortable, the Times says. “They are apparently something of an ‘it’ shoe right now for women in politics,” including attorney general candidate Kathleen Rice, the Times says.
“They seem to be the shoes of a circle of younger women aspiring to power or already in it, women directly and indirectly passing on to one another ways of navigating the particular challenges of being a woman in the public eye,” the Times says. “A woman must look put-together, but not as if she is a slave to fashion; she must look groomed, but never be spotted grooming.”
