A disbarred lawyer has been freed on $100,000 bond as he awaits retrial in the murder of his law partner.

Former Kansas City, Mo., lawyer Richard Buchli III had been convicted in the death of his partner, Richard Armitage, in 2002, but an appeals court reversed the conviction because prosecutors did not turn over exculpatory evidence, the Kansas City Star reports. Buchli contends the undisclosed surveillance tape of his law office building would have shown he did not have enough time to commit the crime.

“I’m glad that the court looked at the evidence and determined this was the proper course of action,” Buchli told the newspaper. “I certainly deny having anything to do with Richard’s death, but that’s been said before.”
