Bernice Weems was thinking of skipping her grandson’s wedding in Denver because she couldn’t find the walker that she needed.

The 84-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico, woman says she called at least 10 people trying to find the walker. She left a message at one number, which turned out to be the Bernalillo County district attorney’s office. KOB and KRQE have coverage.

Weems had gotten one digit wrong when she called the prosecution office. But Kyle Hartsock, an investigator, decided to respond to her voicemail.

“I called her and I said ‘Bernice we have a walker for you.’ She said, ‘Awesome,’ ” Hartsock told KOB. “I think she still thought we were like a walker store.”

Hartsock told KRQE that it took several tries to find the right walker. Eight employees who had pitched in to make it happen greeted Weems at her door with the new device.

“They made me feel oh so good. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve felt that good,” Weems told KOB.
