A Florida judge accused of making an insensitive remark has asked to be reassigned from the criminal bench.

Judge Charles Greene of Broward County, Fla., admitted that he described minorities involved in an attempted murder case as “NHI,” meaning “no humans involved,” according to the Daily Business Review. Greene, the administrative chief of the criminal division, says he meant to indicate that both the witnesses and the defendant lacked jury appeal.

A Broward County diversity committee has determined Greene’s remark was not an intentionally racist comment.

Minority bar groups have complained that Greene is one of several Broward County judges displaying a “continued lack of sensitivity.”
