The hedge fund manager who faked his suicide last month has surrendered.

Samuel Israel III disappeared on June 9, the day he was to report to prison. Today he walked into a local jail in Southwick, Mass., and turned himself in, the New York Times reports.

Israel was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a scheme to defraud investors out of $450 million, the New York Times reported in an earlier story. He helped found a Connecticut-based hedge fund known as the Bayou Group.

Israel left his sport utility vehicle on a bridge over the Hudson River. Written in dust on the car’s hood was the message, “suicide is painless.” His girlfriend has been charged with aiding and abetting his flight, according to another Times story. Authorities had been searching for him in RV parks and campgrounds.
