A Philadelphia family court judge was arrested Monday following an incident in which he allegedly hit his wife in the face, strangled her and then knocked his adult daughter down, according to prosecutors.

Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Fanning, 60, faces charges of aggravated assault, strangulation and related crimes. The attack allegedly happened inside the couple’s home in Torresdale, Pennsylvania.

He is barred from having contact with his wife and 30-year-old daughter through an emergency protection-from-abuse order. According to coverage by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Fanning was released on a $200,000 unsecured bail.

Fanning prosecuted child abuse cases while on the bench and was appointed in 2014 by then-Gov. Tom Corbett. His attorney, Tom Pfender, said his client will plead not guilty.
