Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized this evening as a precaution after she felt faint following an intravenous iron treatment for anemia.

Ginsburg, 76, was taken to Washington Hospital Center at about 7:45 p.m., even though her symptoms had improved, according to court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg. The Washington Post blog 44 carried the full statement by Arberg. The Associated Press, Dow Jones Newswires and Fox News also had stories.

Ginsburg had surgery for pancreatic cancer in February, but she was back at the court less than three weeks later. She reported feeling faint today while working in chambers at about 4:50 p.m.

Ginsburg had a comprehensive medical exam in July and was found to be in normal health, with the exception of a low red blood cell count caused by iron deficiency, the statement said.
