Rejecting a suggestion by a probation officer that Terry Christensen should be confined in his Beverly Hills home, a federal judge in California today sentenced the high-profile Los Angeles lawyer to three years in federal prison for his role in a celebrity wiretapping case.

Christensen, who is in his late sixties, formerly served as managing partner of Christensen, Glaser, Weil, Fink, Jacobs & Shapiro in Century City. He allegedly conspired with so-called private investigator to the stars Anthony Pellicano to wiretap the former wife of billionaire Kirk Kerkorian, although his lawyers contend that he was unaware of the dirty litigation tactic and intend to appeal the sentence, reports the Los Angeles Times.

As discussed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post, a presentence recommendation by a probation officer that Christensen should be sentenced to 10 months of confinement in his Beverly Hills home sparked an angry response from the prosecutor in the case.

Christensen will remain free pending his appeal, the Associated Press notes.
