Calling a Georgia lawyer ineffective, a trial court has removed her from a murder case and brought in the public defender’s office this week to represent her client.

Attorney Veronica Brinson is fighting the order by Bibb County Judge Howard Simms, contending that her client, Frank Reeves, 74, has the right to choose his own counsel, reports the Macon Telegraph.

She called the judge’s order “premature,” “overreaching” and “illegal,” the newspaper says.

The article doesn’t include any comment from the judge about Brinson’s claims.

Brinson had earlier sought to remove Judge Simms from the case, arguing before a different judge that Simms might be biased against her client because Reeves’ son is a community activist who has criticized Simms. She was unsuccessful in having Simms removed.

An earlier Telegraph article provides details.
