An “eagle-eyed” New York lawyer searching the Internet for recipes has broken the latest campaign scandal in search of a clever name.

Lawyer Lauren Handel, a partner in McDermott Will & Emery’s New York office, made an unusual discovery when she was looking for a recipe from a chef on the Food Network, reports Huffington Post blogger David Weiner. Every time she Googled some of the ingredients, she found the same recipe listed on the Food Network and on the campaign site of John McCain.

It turns out that at least four recipes attributed to McCain’s wife, Cindy, as “family recipes” were actually lifted from the Food Network or Rachel Ray, Weiner wrote. He suggested some possible names for the new scandal.

“What will they call it? Farfallegate?” he wrote. “The Rosemary Chicken Dome Scandal? Perhaps something with the ubiquitous Rachael Ray in it.”

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds told the Washington Post that the Web posting on Cindy McCain’s behalf was the work of an intern. “Apparently a Web intern added Rachael Ray to our policy team without her knowing it,” he said. “He was swiftly dealt with, and the page is down for revision.”

The blog Above the Law commented on the revelations. “We’re a little suspicious of this story of Lauren Handel doing recipe research,” the blog said. “We can’t believe a Biglaw attorney in NYC actually has time to cook.”
