After a dismal December, which saw the loss of 1,800 legal jobs, there’s better news for January.

The legal sector added 1,000 jobs, according to figures released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Wall Street Journal Law Blog reports that conditions have stabilized at law firms since 2009, when the legal industry shed 41,900 positions.

Overall, the jobless rate dropped, with the U.S. economy adding 243,000 jobs in January. Unemployment was down to 8.3 percent.

Forbes reports that the biggest gains were in professional and business services, which added 70,000 jobs in January.
