A New York lawyer has been accused of making “reckless and defamatory” comments to the media in a defamation lawsuit.

Thomas Liotti of Garden City, N.Y., was targeted for comments he made in defense of his client, who is accused of embezzling $4.3 million from escrow accounts at his brother’s personal injury law firm, the New York Law Journal reports.

The client, bookkeeper Anthony Galasso, worked for Galasso, Langione & Botter.

Liotti was sued over remarks in which he said his client spent the money with the knowledge of his superiors. Two lawyers at the law firm state in their suit that the comments wrongly accused them of being complicit in the bookkeeper’s conduct.
