A prosecutor who was home sick on Thursday shot an intruder who kicked in the back door of her home in Inola, Oklahoma, according to the local sheriff.

Assistant District Attorney Erin Oquin “certainly took care of business” when she shot the suspect, Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said. KTUL published his comment. The Tulsa World, the Daily Progress, NewsOn6 and KRMG also have stories.

The suspect, who was wounded in the upper chest, has been identified as 24-year-old Bryan William Starkey. He drove from the scene and was arrested after he ended up on a dead-end road. Starkey was hospitalized in stable condition Thursday night.

The sheriff’s office was preparing to ask prosecutors to charge Starkey with other burglaries at the time he was shot. Walton said Starkey threw items from his car as he was driving away. Police recovered a number of items believed to have been stolen, including a gun, electronic devices and a chainsaw.

“It was unfortunate for our intruder suspect that he didn’t do a little bit more market research and learn whose door he was kicking in,” Walton told KTUL.
