The FBI is releasing its secret documents on Sen. Edward Kennedy today, and most involve death threats.

The FBI is posting more than 2,000 pages of documents in response to Freedom of Information requests by the media, according to the Associated Press and MSNBC.com. Both stories say death threats dominate the file on Kennedy, who died last August at the age of 77.

Authors of the threatening letters included the Ku Klux Klan, “Minutemen” organizations, and the National Socialist White People’s Party, the FBI says.

One letter sent to Joseph Kennedy demanded $1 million in exchange for sparing the life of Ted Kennedy, MSNBC.com says. But it wasn’t noticed until after the date for the demanded payment because of the large volume of mail received after the murder of U.S. Sen. Robert Kennedy in 1968.
