A third-year Temple law student has been charged with assault and attempted murder in a shooting caught on videotape outside a Fox television studio in Philadelphia.

The 28-year-old student, Gerald Ung, told police he acted in self-defense, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The video shows one man rushing at another, apparently Ung, who apparently pulls a gun and fires several times, according to Fox 29 news, which has the video online. The shooter then took out his cell phone to call for help.

The shooting victim, Edward DiDonato Jr., is in critical condition. He is a former captain of Villanova University’s lacrosse team.

Police sources told both publications that Ung has a gun permit.
