U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro in Washington, D.C., is giving out informal bonuses in the range of $5,000 to $7,000 to prosecutors, a tactic that some attorneys see as an attempt to prevent experienced prosecutors from leaving, according to story by Bloomberg Law.
The incentives for employees come the same week the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division head started offering retention payments to stem the flood of attorneys fleeing.
Pirro’s bonuses don’t appear based on a defined formula but instead are given out on an ad hoc basis to her most prized lawyers whom she may fear will be the next to resign, according to three anonymous people cited by Bloomberg Law.
Pirro said in a statement the bonuses are consistent with her office’s tradition of rewarding dedicated line attorneys, according to Bloomberg Law.
