Houston solo Tom Kirkendall, a complex business litigator, is keeping up his legal practice after Hurricane Ike, thanks to advance planning and his Infiniti Q45.

Kirkendall downloaded his active case files to his laptop in advance of the storm and routed office phone calls to his cell phone, Texas Lawyer reports. After power went out, he kept his laptop powered up with his car battery and accessed the Internet with an air card.

“I’ve lived in Houston going on 37 years, so I’ve been through my share of hurricanes,” Kirkendall told the publication. “The biggest thing is that you have to be able to function without power.”

Kirkendall was among the lawyers who wrote about Hurricane Ike on their blogs.
