Stanford University’s Lawrence Lessig isn’t the only law professor considering a bid for Congress.

David Orentlicher of Indiana University has already announced his candidacy for Indiana’s seventh congressional district. His website touts his accomplishments as a state legislator and seeks donations for a national campaign.

Seventh district Congresswoman Julia Carson died in December, and her grandson, Andre Carson, was chosen by a special nominating caucus to run on the Democratic ballot in a March 11 special election for her seat, CQ Politics reports reports. Carson is a member of the Indianapolis City Council.

Orentlicher unsuccessfully sought to be slated in the special election and has also filed for nomination in the primary to be held on May 6. CQ Politics says Carson and Orentlicher are among four of the most serious Democratic candidates. The others are another state representative and a former state health commissioner.

Orentlicher, who is also a physician, teaches bioethics and constitutional law.
