Bar candidates who took the flopped launch of the February 2025 California bar exam have agreed to a $1.35 million settlement with ProctorU Inc., the company operating as Meazure Learning that administered the troubled remote and hybrid test.
For the February 2025 exam, test-takers across the state reported a host of technical issues ranging from server issues, inability to cut and paste, problems with proctors and ineffective tech help. That administration, 3,886 examinees completed the bar exam. The original filing alleges that the vendor “failed spectacularly” to administer the test.
While the settlement had been reached in August, the specific terms that allow everyone who files a claim to receive at least $153 became public Friday in a filing. The amount represents the laptop fee that the examinees paid to take the exam. The final amount will be determined after attorney fees and other costs have been paid.
At a hearing set for Jan. 7, U.S. District Judge Jon S. Tigar of the Northern District of California will consider the preliminary agreement.
Bloomberg Law has the story.
In a separate lawsuit, the State Bar of California reached a $5.25 million settlement with the vendor in July.
