The city of Plantation, Florida, claims in a lawsuit that a couple’s “Extreme Christmas” light display is a public nuisance.

The couple, Kathy and Mark Hyatt, are fighting the lawsuit, Reuters reports. “They believe it engenders goodwill and a bond between the community,” their lawyer, James Helf, tells the wire service.

The display includes a Ferris wheel, a live Santa, reindeer, candy canes, snowflakes and a movie screen that plays children’s shows, according to Reuters and the Sun Sentinel, which puts the number of lights in the hundreds of thousands.

In a press release, the city says it is “not against Christmas. The city’s only desire is that the Hyatt holiday display be consistent in size and scale with those of other residents that regularly appear in the city’s single family neighborhoods and that do not cause nuisance impacts and threats to public safety. … The Hyatts are acting irresponsibly.”

The O’Reilly Factor ran a segment on the controversy last week.
