Cleveland prosecutors offered expert testimony Tuesday intended to show that convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell is sane enough to be executed.

A neuropsychologist and a forensic pathologist testified about Sowell’s mental fitness in an attempt to counter defense testimony that the defendant is psychotic, the Associated Press reported.

Sowell, 51, was convicted last month of killing 11 women whose remains were discovered in an around his home in 2009. He also was found guilty of attempting to kill three others.

The jury now must decide whether to recommend a death sentence for Sowell or life in prison.

Neuropsychologist Diana Goldstein testified that Sowell’s brain function is normal. Psychiatrist James Knoll said that his review of health records found no evidence that anti-psychotic drugs were ever prescribed to the defendant, according to the Associated Press.

Prosecutors were expected to call one more witness before the jury begins deliberating his sentence.
