Two lawyers from the Doha office of Patton Boggs, in Qatar, are joining Dewey & LeBoeuf, to help open an office there for their new firm.

William Cattan is joining Dewey as a partner and Joanna Addison will be a senior associate, the law firm reports in a press release today. Until Dewey’s Doha office is up and running, the two will work in their new firm’s New York and London offices, respectively.

Cattan, an American attorney whose practice focuses on finance, equipment finance and bank finance transactions, has worked on secondment at Qatar Petroleum. Addison, a United Kingdom solicitor, also has worked there and at other companies in Qatar. “Mr. Cattan and Ms. Addison will work closely with partner Ken Freeling, who is relocating from Washington, D.C., to lead the development of the firm’s practice in Qatar,” the release notes.

As discussed in earlier ABAJournal.com posts, the Middle East has recently been a hot expansion area for U.S.-based law firms and Dewey, while it has opted to close several U.S. offices this year, apparently sees expansion opportunities abroad.
